Merryl Tielman
Fascinated by both the everyday and the extraordinary, Merryl Tielman has developed a distinctive style, treating bags as sculptural objects rather than mere accessories, blending enigmatic forms with practical function. She draws inspiration from unexpected shapes such as churches, trashcans, household appliances- observing, experimenting, cutting and folding until form becomes a striking, functional piece.
Though often mistaken for an architect or fashion designer, she identifies as neither; her work is driven purely by a study of shape and transformation. Based in Amsterdam, where she studied Audiovisual Arts, Tielman discovered her passion for leather during shoemaking training, ultimately finding in bag design the perfect medium for her artistic expression.
