Your Guide to: Royal Ascot
Originally starting in 1711, Royal Ascot remains to this day a huge event on the British social calendar and one that we here at idaretobe eagerly anticipate each year. Set in the stunning English countryside next to Windsor Great Park, Royal Ascot marks the pinnacle in horseracing, attracting the best competing horses from around the world.
Aside from the thrilling horse races, Royal Ascot boasts breathtaking surroundings, fine dining and even an appearance from the Queen. At idaretobe however, the part we’re most excited about is the fashions! Nowadays, Royal Ascot is as synonymous with fashion as it is with horses, with visitors from all around the country donning their fanciest clothing for the five day event.
For 2016, the dress codes remain as strict as ever. In the invitation only Royal Enclosure, fascinators are a no-no, and hats or headpieces must have a base of at least 4 inches. Dresses and skirts need to fall to at least the knee, and straps of tops or dresses have to be an inch wide at their smallest. Sounds complicated, right? The Queen Anne Enclosure and the Windsor Enclosure – the two that are open to the public – are thankfully a little more relaxed. Most people however, regardless of dress code, see the races as an excuse to dress up, socialise and make an impression. At idaretobe, we think a day at the races is the perfect opportunity to get dressed up to the nines and soak up the atmosphere – here are a few of our race day fashion tips;
- Build your look around your dress. Find a great dress that makes you feel a million dollars and the rest should just fall in place.
- Patterns are great for spring and summer. Current trends call for statement patterns – the bigger and bolder the better!
- In terms of footwear, chunkier heels or wedges are perfect for an outdoor event – why not take a look at our edgy and iconic Trippen shoe range for inspiration?
- Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise! Jewellery or scarves are a great way to dress up an outfit and can provide that perfect finishing touch to your look.
Whether you’re lucky enough to be attending yourself or simply sitting back and soaking up the fun and fashions from the comfort of your own home, Royal Ascot is most definitely an event to mark on the calendar – this year the event takes place on the 14th-18th June.
